What you are stepping into
Broadcast journalism takes time to learn well — this program is built around that reality, not around shortcuts.
Broadcast journalism demands a particular kind of discipline: the ability to synthesize complex information quickly, then communicate it clearly under pressure.
This program covers the core mechanics of television and radio news production. Students learn how editorial decisions are made, how to structure a news package, and how to develop a credible on-air presence. Coursework addresses script writing, source verification, and the ethics of live reporting.
One area of focus is sport analytic reporting, where data-driven storytelling intersects with broadcast delivery. Students examine how journalists translate performance statistics and analytical models into accessible segments for general audiences.
The program draws on case studies from Canadian and international newsrooms. Assignments include producing short-form packages, conducting recorded interviews, and presenting live-to-camera segments evaluated by working journalists.
